Terms of Use for the Pastro App
In short: Pastro is a free project run by a single person and helps you organise your groceries. The app estimates shelf lives, reads receipts and suggests recipes – partly with the help of artificial intelligence. These results are aids, not guarantees. Please check them yourself, especially where food safety is concerned.

1. Who provides Pastro and what these terms cover
Pastro is a Progressive Web App at pantry.pastro.app. It is
provided by:
Zum Freibad 78
14943 Luckenwalde
Germany
Email: contact@
These terms apply to the use of the app; they do not apply to the website
pastro.app. Pastro is free of charge and has no paid features.
The app is intended for private use in your own household.
How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy. It is not part of these terms: it informs you, and you do not have to agree to it.
2. Your account and your household
Account and contract. You need an account to use Pastro.
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code, or with your
Google account. The contract for the use of Pastro is concluded when you
sign in for the first time – that is, when you confirm the one-time code,
complete the Google sign-in or accept an invitation to a household. Before
that, we show you a notice referring to these terms. You can correct your
email address at any time before sending it, and you can request a new
code. We do not store the contract text for you; the current version of
these terms is available in the app settings and at
pastro.app/terms-app/, where you can save or print it. The
contract languages are German and English.
Minimum age. You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you also need the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Access. Do not share your one-time code, and only sign in with an email address that belongs to you.
Household. You can invite other people to your household. All members then see and edit the same groceries, shopping lists, recipes, recipe requests and statistics, and they see the display name and email address of the other members. Only invite people who agree to you providing their email address for this purpose, and only enter data that is meant for your household. If you leave a household or delete your account, the shared data remains available to the other members; if you are the last member, it is deleted. If you accept an invitation to another household, you move there and lose access to your previous household.
Ending the contract. You can delete your account at any time in the settings. This ends the contract. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.
3. What Pastro can do – and what you need to check yourself
Pastro is a tool for organising. Much of what it shows is calculated automatically or generated by artificial intelligence, and that can contain errors:
- Shelf life. Expiry dates in Pastro are estimates. They replace neither the best-before or use-by date on the packaging nor your own judgement. Whether a food is still good is your decision – based on its appearance, smell, storage and the manufacturer's information. Pastro makes no statement about food safety.
- Receipt scanning and voice input. Items, quantities, prices and categories may be recognised incorrectly. Check the entries and correct them where necessary. Statistics and the displayed “savings” are based on these entries and on assumptions; they are approximate values.
- Recipes. AI suggestions are labelled as such in the app. Ingredients, quantities, preparation steps, cooking times and calorie figures may be incomplete or wrong. Pastro does not know your allergies, intolerances or health requirements and does not take them into account – the app deliberately asks you not to enter such information. Check every recipe yourself before you cook it, and take care of safe preparation yourself. Pastro is no substitute for nutritional or medical advice.
- AI features. The AI features are optional and require your consent. The number of AI requests is limited (currently 10 per week and household); the app shows the current limit.
- Support. You can support Pastro voluntarily via Buy Me a Coffee. This is a donation with nothing in return: it does not unlock any features and does not raise any limit. The payment is handled by Buy Me a Coffee under its own terms.
4. What is allowed – and what is not
Use Pastro as it is intended. In particular, you may not:
- use receipts, recordings, data or email addresses of other people without their agreement;
- enter content that is unlawful or infringes the rights of others;
- use the AI features for anything other than recording your groceries and getting recipe suggestions – for example, to have arbitrary texts generated;
- circumvent technical limits (such as the AI quota) or security measures, access Pastro in an automated way or disrupt its operation;
- use Pastro commercially or offer it to others for a fee.
Your content. What you enter into Pastro – groceries, lists, recipes, requests, preferences, receipts, recordings – remains yours. You allow us to store and process this content, including through our service providers, to the extent necessary to provide Pastro to you and your household. We claim no further rights to your content. You are free to use AI suggestions such as recipes for yourself.
Pastro itself. The app, its design, its texts and the mascot remain our property or that of our licensors. You receive the right to use Pastro for yourself – nothing more.
Violations. In the event of serious or repeated violations of these rules – for example, misuse of the AI features or disruption of the service – we may suspend your account or terminate the contract without notice. In less serious cases, we will first ask you to stop the violation.
5. Availability, changes and the end of Pastro
Pastro is a free project run by a single person and is continuously developed. We aim for reliable operation but cannot guarantee that the app is available at all times without interruptions or errors. Maintenance, disruptions at our service providers or your internet connection can limit its use. Therefore, do not keep important information exclusively in Pastro.
As Pastro develops, features may be added, changed or removed – for example, where service providers, costs, security or the legal situation require it. We will inform you of significant changes in the app or by email.
If we want to discontinue Pastro entirely or terminate your contract without an important reason, we will inform you by email at least 30 days in advance so that you can prepare. You can end the contract at any time (Section 2).
6. Liability
Pastro is free of charge, and much of what it shows is an estimate. Our liability is therefore limited as follows:
- We are liable without limitation for damage resulting from injury to life, body or health, and for damage caused by us intentionally or through gross negligence.
- In the case of ordinary negligence, we are liable only if we breach an obligation whose fulfilment is essential for the use of Pastro and on whose fulfilment you may therefore rely (essential contractual obligation). In that case, liability is limited to the damage that is typically foreseeable for an app like Pastro.
- Otherwise, we are not liable. Liability under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz) or under a guarantee we have expressly given remains unaffected.
In plain words: Pastro does not replace your own checks (Section 3). If a food has gone bad although the app estimated a later expiry date, if a recipe fails, or if it contains an ingredient you cannot tolerate, we are responsible for that only in the cases listed above.
7. Changes to these terms, applicable law, contact
Changes. We may change these terms, for example when
features or the legal situation change. Changes apply only if you agree to
them: the app shows you the new version and asks for your agreement before
you continue using Pastro. If you do not agree, you cannot continue using
Pastro; you can delete your account and your data at any time (Section
2). The current version is available at pastro.app/terms-app/ and
in the app settings.
Applicable law. The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. If you are a consumer and habitually reside in another country, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country remain unaffected.
Language. These terms are available in German and English. In the event of discrepancies, the German version prevails.
